Hoping for Autumn………
but it still feels like summer. My apologies for the non appearance of Episode #9 of At-The-Helm last month, please rest assured it is coming very soon, along with some other good stuff I’ve been working on. Also working on the closing theme to Ian’s new short film “Omegastop” which he’s editing again now. Summer Heat is Back.
At least for this last Sunday in August. After hitting 100 degrees here on Tuesday of this week , I’m ready for the slide into fall next month and cooler weather. Episode 9 of At-The-Helm will hopefully materialize this week and when it does I’ll put it up pronto for all you folks hear. It will feature music done for media projects (video & film) in the 1980’s and I think you’ll enjoy it..as soon as I can find the pesky little thing. " Now August is a wicked month…"
….John Hartford once sang and I believe he was correct. But progress is occurring in the At-The-Helm podcast series regardless. Music files for shows 10,11, and 12 are now completed and on disc for the next step in their production. The music takes a new turn with the next few upcoming episodes, I think you’ll enjoy the changes so please do check back in. A New Short Musical Selection….
is now available online for your listening pleasure, it’s titled “Idylls of the King” and dates from 1988. The piece is a four track work with me on electric guitar, synth, and drumbox/effects. On the update list: Episode #9 of At-The-Helm is in the can and headed for release in a week or so. Glenn my co-producer for this series, is back in action after knee surgery and feeling better every day, continued thanks to him. A Lovely Summer Sunday
Just humid enough to feel like August. It’s been a busy week both at work and at home.
Production note: The theme music for At-The-Helm is a tune called “Languid Still” that comes from the same sessions that produced the tracks that are featured in show #8. The photo above is from the continental divide in Rocky Mountain National Park looking north to the Medicine Bow ridge in Wyoming on a stormy summer day not long ago.

As noted in the podcast this is a transitional episode for recording techniques in that 4 track recording will be replaced by stereo recordings of live and constructed loops with instrumental accompaniment. Both techniques are featured during this show.
Production note: There is an extended period of silence after the track “Slight Confusion” that has presented itself in this show. Although unintended in nature this quiet has occurred during a week that has brought the news of the sudden passing of one of my oldest and dearest friends. In that spirit I offer those moments of silence in the memory of Charles R. James and extend my condolences to his family and friends. He will be missed by all those who knew him.
A New Listening selection………..
A short ambient track titled “Last Day of School” is now available for listening. Recorded live to tape in the studio June 2nd 1998, it features me on synthesizer and loops. something slow on a hot afternoon. Meanwhile the search continues for Show#8 of At-The-Helm, an earlier sighting (see above photo) proved to be a false alarm, I remain hopeful. More soon, have a good day folks.
A Short Delay
As with many summer travel schedules ,the At-The-Helm podcast series is experiencing unexpected delays in making Episode 8 available for your listening pleasure. The week ahead should hold the answer to this bit of bother hopefully, so I do ask that you stay tuned and I’ll get it going ASAP. A Lot of Work Done…..
and still a lot to do, but progress on all fronts. The flagstone pathways are evolving, Show #8 was just recorded Friday for release later this month. Working on music for Show#10 with word that music is on the way for the beginning of the Dozey Lumps period shows which will prove a treat for all those who dare listen.
As a production note: when my good buddy Mike Monett took a break from his work rigging stadium set-up for the current Police tour and visited here ,we listened to some of Mike’s material from a few years back and decided to put one of his songs up for you to hear. Mike was one of the original members of Fez (See Show #4), and he’s back on the Police tour now so do go check out his song “Maybe Tomorrow” for a taste of something different, and thanks again for visiting and listening.
